Travelling in Spring

The most volatile season to plan around and frequently the most rewarding. Blossom and wildflower timing shifts by up to two weeks year to year and cannot be reliably forecast more than about ten days ahead, so spring trips reward loose itineraries. Mountain passes are still closed into May in much of the northern hemisphere, and meltwater makes river crossings and lower trails harder than the photographs suggest.
